Garbett Point Trek – The Weekend Gateway near Mumbai/Pune
January 28, 2019
Garbett Point has situated about 5 km from Matheran Railway Station, in the hidden hilly regions of Bhivpuri village, Garbett point offers a panoramic view of the Sahyadri mountain.
Garbett point trek is a one-day adventure trek filled with untouched natural beauty and is a perfect option for those who are looking for a quick weekend gateway from the city of Mumbai/Pune.
As it was a night trek, we climbed up in the night, we reached on the top of the mountain at 4:45 AM in the morning before sunrise. We lay down on the grass waiting for sunrise. The stars were looking so close as if I’ll raise my hand and pluck one of them. I slept for a while watching stars and when I woke up the sun was rising slowly and I literally fell in love with the shades of the sky.
We all were literally running here and there to capture the beauty. Though we were tired all the pain went out just by seeing such a beautiful view.
It took around 5 hours of ascending and 1 or 2 hours of descending.
While descending it was a little bit tough for us as we didn’t sleep and the place turns hot in the afternoon.
We Climbed down at Matheran. I so wanted to explore Matheran but everyone was so tired that we were not even in a mood to eat breakfast.
Later I did explore Matheran. I’ll share a blog post about it as well.
Tips for the Trek
You will not find any place to eat anything.
Carry snacks and some candies so that you’ll get energy by sugar intake. Carry at least 2 bottles of water.
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes which has a good grip. The trek is steep at some point and if you are trekking in monsoon then it becomes really slippery. If you are going for a night trek, carry the torch.
Do not throw rapers. It is our duty to keep it clean even you can help by picking up the rapers which others have thrown before.
How to reach
We chose the night trek for this. We were 20 people. I went with my three friends. We registered from one of the agencies who charge around 1000/- pp.
We caught the local train from Ghatkopar station (I forgot the exact timings.) It was at 11 or 11:30 I guess. The information about the train timing was given by our guide from the agency. Everyone was supposed to catch the same train and met at Bhivpuri station at 1 AM.
Then we started the trek.
When we went back, we took a sharing taxi from Matheran station and went to the nearest station nerul.
From nerul, you can get the local train for Mumbai in every half an hour.
